Description

This set of Victorian-style Acme Cast-Iron Mortise Shutter Hinges (3 3/4-Inch x 2 1/2-Inch) is used in applications when enough wood trim is exposed within the window opening to mount the shutters. Unlike surface mounted straps, they are mortised into the edge of the shutter and the inside edge of the window frame (much like an interior door hinge). Mass produced by Lull & Porter in the mid-nineteenth century, the Acme hinge features a patented locking pintle design where the outer leaf rises slightly when opening then sets down to lock in place in the fully open or shut position, preventing lift-off from strong winds. When needed, the shutters are easily lifted off by hand without removing the hardware. Made of raw, cast iron, they must be primed and painted to prevent rusting. The set includes two right-hand hinges, two left-hand hinges and two sill-mounted fasteners - enough to complete one window. Screws are not included.

Dimensions:
Hinge: 3 3/4" W x 2 1/2" H leaf, 2 7/8" H w/ pintle
Leaf: 7/8" W. Throw: 2". Offset: 1".
Catch hatch and latch: 1 1/8" H x 1 3/4" W . Projection 1 1/2". Keeper: 1 1/8" x 13/16".

antique shutter hinges

Comments:

I used these shutter hinges on 2 homes in the same neighborhood, they matched the original hinges perfectly

authentic hinges

Comments:

We built a new home with an old feel and could not find shutter hinges in the big city of Houston. We weren't sure what size we needed but one of the customer service representatives was extremely helpful. In fact, we developed quite a good working relationship over the course of about two months. I thought it was odd that the hinges didn't not come primed with rust proof paint. That was the only drawback.

Great Customer Service. Awesome Quality

Comments:

We wanted decorative shutters. Hated the look of the commercial home project stores off the shelf units. After pricing the parts to build some authentic shutters House of Antiques was our #1 resource.

Great product and always great service!

Comments:

Added to antique shuttters.

Great Quality, Value, and quick delivery

perfect hinges for our shutters

great shutter for Victorian home, awesome customer service

Comments:

Used for front shutters on 1890's Victorian home in New Orleans. Replaced old hinges that were finally broken/missing parts. Exact replica of original hinges, and great that the inside latch is included too. I do wish I could have ordered sets with 3-pair of hinges rather than only 2-pair, but really not that big of a deal, I just ordered extra sets. I chose to get the unpainted version to save a few dollars, prep'ed them well with paint thinner, primed with rustoleum and painted with quality black-color metal paint.

House of Antique Hardware is a wonderful resource

Comments:

First and foremost I found the information made available by the House of Antique Hardware website was outstanding most effected in my search for antique looking shutter hardware. I've enjoyed two very different careers whereas my growing up in a metal and woodworking shop had great impact on honing my mechanical and technical skills and bringing me success in both professional careers. Per my recent order for the Acme Cast Iron Mortise shutter hinges and related hardware I was disappointed at first when I received my order. I felt that the reproductions I received were thinner and smaller by comparison to true vintage hardware of the late 1880/90 era and did not have the feel of a stronger old-world authentic cast iron part. On the positive side I have already installed these antique reproductions and when viewing from a reasonable distance the overall look is just fine. From a strength point of view I am confident that the reproductions will hold up under non-working purposes - and just looks will do. The hardware was easy to secure to my 1880's era farmhouse shutters. I had completely restored 1880s era shutters enough to fit 6 windows to a 1905 era 2-1/2 story semi-Victorian era home and needed to replace all the hardware to said shutters. House of Antiques made my job easy to find and locate some-what matching hardware and with the on-line installation instructions things couldn't have been easier.

I like the product very much

Used on a historic house. Great quality and detail.

Perfect Hinges, but wrong size -on us!

Comments:

The hinges are of excellent quality…we just ordered the wrong size! Are waiting on our replacement set, so will know more then about ease of installation (but it looks simple enough). Pleased with the look, quality and solid feel!
