Description & Dimensions

This set of Victorian-style Acme Black Cast-Iron Mortise Shutter Hinges (3 1/8-Inch x 2 1/2-Inch), contains enough hardware for one window (2 left-hand hinges, 2 right-hand hinges and two sill-mounted catches). Unlike surface mounted straps, they are mortised into the edge of the shutter and the inside edge of the wooden window casement (much like a fancy interior door hinge). Mass produced by Lull & Porter in the mid-nineteenth century, the Acme hinge features a patented locking pintle design. When fully open or closed the shutter locks into place, preventing lift-off from strong winds. The outer leaf also rises slightly when opening, keeping the shutter panel from scraping and binding against the sill. When needed, the shutters are easily lifted off without removing the hardware. Made of heavy duty cast iron, they feature a weather-resistant powder-coated finish. The set includes two right-hand hinges, two left-hand hinges and two fasteners - enough to complete one window.

Dimensions (each hinge): 2 1/2" H leaf, 2 7/8" H w/ pintle x 3 3/4" W . Leaf: 7/8"W. Throw: 1 3/8". Offset: 11/16". Fasteners: #10 x 1" wood screws.
Catch hatch and latch: 1 1/8" H x 1 3/4" W . Projection 1 1/2". Keeper: 1 1/8" x 13/16". Fasteners: #8 x 1" wood screws.

Hardware Tip:
For best performance and to prevent rust, iron and steel hardware should be regularly maintained. After installation check for scratches or chips in the surface and re-coat periodically as needed. Learn about hardware >
