Function of new while looking old
Comments:
These are beautiful up close, and easy to use. I have them on a new piece I remade to look antique.
Quality latch but comes with philips head screws
Comments:
Latch itself is casted and built well but its casted so you cant replace the spring once it wears out. It's about a 1/4'' smaller all around compared to the originals. Also comes with Philips head screws that are made of cheap steel I rounded out 6 on pre-drilled holes! These don't match anything from that period. Makes for an extra trip to the hardware store to buy the brass flathead screws these originally would've been produced with. Philips head screws have only been mass produced since the 1930's and that was for the automotive field. A keen eye will notice the difference right away if you walked into the room. Otherwise good latch but I doubt it will last the 143 years my others have. I also like to keep the flatheads going. Far easier to dig paint/ lacquer/rust out. Don't want the next caretaker of my house to break anything just trying to remove a Philips head screw. Philips are good for cheap temporary use and go quickly down an assembly line. Flathead screws will last multiple lifetimes. Anyone who says different is someone in a hurry that doesn't take pride in their work.
not a good product
Comments:
The 4 latches I received were poorly made. They wouldn't lie flat because the bottom was bowed. I was very sad I had to return them, but glad to get my money refunded. Although I was not pleased with all shipping and handling cost and time wasted. I ended up buying the Forged Iron Arrowhead Lift Style Surface Latch. They are much better!!!
Love them- exactly what I expected
Comments:
I love the finish but I got the cast iron cups but they don't match exactly but I am using them anyway
Colonial ButterFly Hinges
Comments:
I am a part time woodworker and maker of primitive, shaker, arts and crafts furniture - as well as some household decorator pieces. I purchased the Butterfly Hinges for a chimney cabinet project I just finished. I must say that the hinges combined with the cast iron cabinet latch looks fantastic on the finished cabinet. I love the screws that come with the hinges and the hammered/forged look adds to the detail. Overall I am very satisfied.
bathroom project
Comments:
It was An old Dr.s medicine cabinet door that I wanted to put on a bathroom cabinet I built in the bathroom. The hinges were gone but I could tell what used to be there.
Nice product but...
Comments:
Nice product but inconsistant. we ordered 4 and one came with different sized screws then the other 3. And one of the other ones the back was not flat so it would not lay flush with the cabinent
Reflections of the past
Comments:
We remodeled our kitchen in our 1906 house and wanted it to look like it would have back in the day. The latches were perfect for that! They are heavy and sturdy, not like stamped Steele. These are iron. When you turn the latch, there is some resistance at times. I'm hoping they will get smoother in the operation as time goes by. I just love my kitchen and the latches were the perfect addition!
Rustic, beautiful and functional!
