It took some work

Comments:

The big problem with this unit is the spindles. The square un-threaded portion should not be centered on the spindle(preferred) or the un-threaded portion should be longer to allow the un-threaded portion to fully bear against corresponding part in the lock itself. As designed threads bear against the square cavity for the spindle. I took the long spindle and cut about 1/2"" from the length to achieve almost full square to square bearing on a 1 3/8"" door. I have only installed 3 or 4 locks on new doors, all others being modern, but this was the most difficult I have ever encountered.

A little too stiff - and some modern give-a-ways

Comments:

This door handle assembly looks the part overall. and most people will not notice that it is a repro. however, the allen wrench-type screws that hold the knob in place are a little too obvious for my liking. You can't always adjust them to go on the bottom. The old one have flat-head screws. Also, shape of the knob shaft has no flair like an original. The painted finish should probably be a little flatter.... small details I could go on. The knob is stiff and wiggles to the wrong way, so you often quarter turn it the wrong way before you remember and turn it the right way. I'm hoping it will loosen up, as a bought a similar item last summer, and that one loosened up.

New as authentic as can be

Comments:

Quality heavy gauge...this rim lock set replaces a prior set that seems to have been made of cast aluminum. This reproduction exactly replicates the dimensions of the one I am replacing, so not tinkering necessary to achieve a fit. The reproduction is also cast iron, so sturdy for use in our back door, the most frequently used door in our home. And finally, we have a key (cool authentic skeleton key) so we can use the locking mechanism.

Vertical Rim Lock

Comments:

The rim lock works well, however it is important that the center hole in the door is symmetrical and only 1/2 inch in diameter, otherwise the door knobs will be loose and the mechanism will not operate smoothly.

Good Quality, Good Value

Comments:

This particular order arrived missing a couple of components, but I was issued promptly with a refund covering the missing items soon after I notified the House of Antique Hardware of the problem. A minor ""packing mistake"". Nothing more. Could have happened to anyone. I am very pleased with what I got, and the service provided by the company.

Antique rim locks

Comments:

Love these handles, I live in a historic town where antique hardware is not only aesthetically pleasing but historically accurate these are good solid handles that function perfectly and match the 100 year old originals beautifully

Looks like the original!

Comments:

We have a 125 year old Victorian house. We stripped down some interior doors but the original hardware has been painted over so many times, it was nearly impossible to strip down. We found House of Antique Hardware online and ordered some hinges and door locks with porcelain knobs. They look exactly like the originals. We will buy more as we refinish more of the interior doors.

New Life for an old Door

Comments:

The old rim lock latch on our cellar door died years ago. It was just push open, pull close. I still find myself trying to push the door open, forgetting that I have a beautiful working rim lock that requires turning the knob. Imagine. This set is solid, easily reversible, and handsome, and a snap to install as it fit right where the old lock was. Top quality item, and super customer service made this a smooth operation. I would use their products without question.
