Love this in matte black

Comments:

I have a 120 year old house with original hardware and had to replace one door, and it had to be tube latch instead of mortise like the old hardware. I was so happy to find this close of a match to the other door in the same room, and now I want to replace that one too since the smooth operation is such an improvement over the old hardware.

Update of poor reveiw

After posting my review House of Antique contacted me. The Door Set was under warranty & they had the Manufacturer sent me a new latch & springs. It's working fine now. Thanks H of A for your concern & follow-up.

Wonderful Door Knob Set that is easy to install.

Comments:

Overall I was very pleased with the quality of the door sets that I had ordered. They are very solidly built. The only stamped-metal parts are the door jamb strike plate and the latch plate - understandably so. All the other parts are thickly casted brass (i ordered the Antique Brass finish). The installation was rather easy. You do need to have some basic chisel skills to mortise out for the latch plate and jamb strike plate. Make sure you have a sharp 1"" as well as a 1 1/2"" chisel. I would also recommend using fostner bits when drilling the hole on the face of the door for the door knob. Likewise, I would recommend again using a fostner bit to start the one-inch hole on the edge of the door for the latch barrel - then finish the hole off with a one-inch spade bit. The fostner bits give far less wood tare-out when drilling than spade bits. One thing that I noticed was that the finish on the door set - while beautifully applied - seemed somewhat delicate. I did get some scratches on one of the door sets while installing. After that first install I just made sure that I was extra careful when doing the installs so as not to scratch the finish on the knobs or plates.
