Solid-Brass Vertical Rim Lock with Choice of Finish

I bought one to replace the antique that I had on my door that finally broke. I installed it, but the latch was sticking, and it wasn't turning properly. I had to use a pencil to push it in so that I could get the door the close. Finally the latch just snapped and was irreparable. I figured that it was user error, and bought a second one. Nope. Same thing happened. Even had a buddy come look and make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. But then the latch broke AGAIN! Do not recommend.

This was a replacement for one of the typical, cast-iron, cheap rim locks you get at the hardware store. They don't work when they're new, and parts break with normal use. This brass replacement, by contrast is a vast improvement, works well, and is likely to last forever. It's the second one I've bought, and will remember it for the future.

Product is a great reproduction to match the other rim locks on the interior doors in my 1910 house. All the parts work great and it was fairly easy to install. My only wish is that the screws that came with it were a bit longer, as I had to buy replacement ones to get the keeper to firmly secure to the door frame. Another thing I noticed is that it takes a little more strength to turn the knob than with my existing locks, but I'm hoping that will ease up with time.

This lock can be accidentally locked from outside the room. We had to break into the room because you cannot unlock the door unless you are in the room. Therefore, we had to purchase a replacement after breaking into the room, which destroyed the originally purchased product. Blends well with 1862 farmhouse.

This product looks good and works well. The given mounting screws were one size too small in diameter, but they did allow for some adjustment of insallation.

This rim lock replaced an old one that had been painted over and no longer locked. I was tired of having to tell guests that they could not lock the bathroom door but don't worry, we'll knock before entering. This rim lock is almost identical to the old one (except prettier and the lock works) and installed in the same way. Just disassemble the door knob and pull out the spindle, remove the old rim lock, then reverse the process to put the new one on. The catch fit perfectly into the original notch in the trim from the old one too.

Worked very well for us.
