Shutters Whipping in the Wind

Comments:

House is 122 years old and known as a Southern Crackerbox. The windows are large and originally had shutters on hinges on all windows. When I moved in 1997, there were no shutters up and not every window still had the hinges mounted. We added the large heavy shutters on the five windows in the front, mounting them on the hinges so they could be closed in theory; our intent was for decorative purposes only, The house was painted last year, which resulted in shutters being taken down and painted. Unfortunately, when they were re-hung, some of them did not lock down as they had initially - some movement was noticed. Earlier this year we had two significant wind storms which resulted in two shutters breaking off their hinges. Given this, I decided that once the shutters were re-hung, to secure all five window shutters with shutter dogs. Those available a local salvage yard looked cheap and required a lot of clean up, hence my search for shutter dogs on line. Which brought me to House of Antique Hardware. The dogs I ordered were substantial and after another violent storm front this weekend, did what I wanted them to do - keep the shutters in place. I did get a carpenter to install at the time I put the down shutters up. Glad I found you guys.
