Description

These Early-American Butterfly Hinges (2 1/4-Inch X 2-Inch) are as simple as can be. Based on the hand-wrought designs of Colonial blacksmiths, they are a distinctive alternative to H or strap-style cabinet hinges. Made of stamped steel with a satin-black, lacquer finish.

Dimensions: 2 1/4" H x 2" W

Hardware Tip

Surface Hinge: Also called flush or full surface, a surface hinge is one which is mounted to the face of the door and door frame so that the entire hinge is visible when the door is closed.

a worn finish to early new england furni

Comments:

I use the butterfly hinge but spray it flat black and use straight head screws they add to the early new england look that my customers want.

As expected, thanks to reading other reviews

Comments:

Using these hinges on small boxes meant to appear as being from the early 1700's. They have a distinctive look at a reasonable price. Not made in the USA, and as others have noted, the ""finished"" side is wrong, the unfinished side will be facing out. OK for our purposes since we will be stripping the paint and going for a rough and aged look anyway, however, if the appearance is critical for your project be aware that you may want to polish the edges and possibly repaint. Can't comment on the non-period-authentic Philips head screws since we're not using them, except to say are not machined for countersinking since the screwholes are not recessed on either side anyway. Should be fine for all but the most demanding purposes, and even then with some slight modifications.

Black Lacquer Colonial Butterfly Hinges

Comments:

Love the look of the hinges, but the screws are cheap and the heads break off easily. Time will tell how the hinges hold up. I am using them on my kitchen cabinets.

Butterfly hinges fly high

I build reproduction painted country furniture and these hinges work well in keeping the right look when cost is an issue to the customer.

Great hinge Soft screws

Comments:

I purchased these hinges to accent a cabinet I was building for a client. The hinges looked great! The cabinet was made of rustic cherry, and either too hard for the screws or they were just too soft! The screw holes were pre-drilled and the heads still twisted off before being securely tightened. After breaking two of them I switched screws and had no more problems!
