Very Afraid!
Comments:
After purchasing several hundreds of dollars worth of new, brass window hardware, I was a little nervous and afraid of ruining it, or being stuck with shiny new brass. I just finished aging most of my new hardware, and it looks great! Very happy with the results! I wish I ordered the larger bottle, as I ran out.. which is why I'm on this page again today!
very poor description
Comments:
Product description fails to mention that items must be submerged in the product. [...] I tried painting the product on the larger pieces that I wanted to age and it did nothing but cause white spots. I was extremely disappointed in this product.
Worked great to restore antique brass fittings
Comments:
I cleaned the hardware with solvents first a tested it on the back first
Worked great! Exactly what we needed. It worked fast and wit
Comments:
We soaked our items in the crockpot on high heat for 4 hours and then scrubbed to remove all dinge and dust. Then we put the solution in a little plastic container. We then either dipped or soaked for a few minutes depending on the desired aging effect on that item. It brought the piece back to life. We ruffed up some a bit to have that more aged and used effect. We used the assorted wire brush set and followed the intended use for our desired outcome.
Worked really well, but difficult to use
Comments:
The product did its job, but it was challenging to get no streaks or splotches on it. It would have been really nice to get some tips and tricks with the bottle.
Works as promised
Comments:
The ager works fine on raw, spotlessly clean brass. It will not work properly if there is lacquer, fingerprints or any foriegn substance on the metal. You have to keep an eye on how long it is on as it will get quite dark quickly. Also only good for parts you can dip or submerge in it, not very large items. You can reuse the product over and over again by running it through a screen (to catch debris) and funnelling it back in the bottle,
Works great!! Exactly as described!!!!
Comments:
I have used this product on door hardware and it has worked great!! It is easy to control how dark a piece gets (time) and it also worked to age brandnew brass screws to match existing hardware! I'll definitely use this on future projects.
Works Well if you do the prep.
Comments:
I used this to make some brass cabinet knobs into oil rubbed bronze. The most important thing is the prep before using the aging souution. Most brass items are coated with a clear lacquer or the like. You must remove every bit of ther lacquer so the acid in the aging solution can get to the brass. If you don't get it all off it will be splochy. You might try paint stripper followed with steel wool. After you age the piece you can gently rub off some of the dark coloring on the high spots to simulate years of use. It's easy to rub off too much of the dark color, leaving the item brass again so you probably will need to spray a clear coat last to protect it.
Yes, in fact I am ordering more today!
Comments:
I am an artist who creates repousse designs in brass and other metals. I needed a quick way to add a patina to the background so the design would stand out, and this product was faster and as effective, if not more so, than the process I had used in the past.
