Description

This classic mortise lock is a reproduction of those used during the early 20th century. It features a 1/8” thick solid-brass face plate and interior components with a heavy cast zinc case. For added elegance, our exclusive Antique by-Hand finish ages gracefully over time into a beautiful natural patina. The set comes complete with two brass skeleton keys and is reversible for left or right-hand doors.

When using this as a replacement lock, it is important to measure existing cutouts on your door, including the backset, face plate, and mortise pocket. Some modification of your cutouts may be required.

Dimensions. Faceplate: 5 7/8" T x 1" W x 1/8" thick. Strike Plate: 4 5/16" T x 1" W with 1/2" tongue. Lock Box: 3 3/4" T x 11/16" W x 2 7/8" D. The backset is a standard 2 1/4"

Hardware Tip

Backset: On a lock or latch, it is the distance from the front of the face plate to the center of the knob hub. On the door, it is from the edge of the door to the center of the door knob.

Excellent craftsmanship, but you will need a 1/4"" spindle

Comments:

I have bought 3 of these to replace existing mortise locks in doors in my 121-year-old Victorian house. The craftsmanship is excellent, and the mortise locks easily fit into the existing mortises in the doors. It's also easy to change the handedness of the latch bolt, based on the direction in which the door opens and closes. However, the square hole in the mortise lock, through which the doorkob spindle goes, is just slightly too small to allow a standard spindle (9/32"" thick in cross-section) to pass. You will have to use a 1/4"" inch spindle. After purchasing one of these mortise locks and finding another supplier who sells 1/4"" inch-thick spindles, I purchased two more of these mortise locks.

I love the mortise locks
