Description

This sturdy spindle is designed to facilitate new or vintage doorknobs with threaded shanks of 20 TPI. Constructed of hardened steel, it provides smooth operation and long-lasting wear. With a 5" length, it's ideal for thicker doors. Features a standard 9/32" thickness.

Dimensions: 5" L x 9/32" thick. 20 TPI.

Hardware Tip

If you need a threaded spindle you need to know what the threads per inch are and check to see that the spindle thickness is small enough to fit through the hub of your lock or latch.

Simple solution to old door

We live in a beautiful 1903 home with gorgeous woodwork. The door knobs were probably 1950's cheap and unattractive when we bought the house. So, I bought some Charleston-style reproductions to add to the house and loved them. Whatever kit I bought was just a door knob and face plate. We installed them ourselves with the existing spindle. It worked for awhile (maybe 3 years) somewhat. They seemed to stick at times and eventually became so frustrating that we could not always open the door. I had spent maybe $150 on the set and was contemplating buying a $500 set because I assumed the whole mechanism was bad. Then I saw these spindles for $5 or so. I thought it was worth a try to just replace the spindle and see it that was the problem. WOW! Everything works great. The old spindle was worn and getting caught in the door and wouldn't grip. Some of the spokes were worn off and it wasn't the right size for the new reproduction door handle. I am so glad I tried the $5 solution first.
