8" Traditional Style Surface Door Bolt In Solid Brass

We used this on a heavy custom wood gate and needed heavy quality construction hardware that was easy to use from both sides of the gate. This works perfectly!

Beautiful surface bolt used on my french doors for added security. Very solid. Looks good on the door. Works well. Only drawback was ease of installation. Depending on the threshold at the bottom of the door, you may need to remove a piece of trim work in order to use the brass plate that the bolt slides into. You may need several tools (putty knife to remove existing wood trim on the floor, electric drill, drill bit for making the hole in the floor for the bolt, a couple of sizes of chisels, etc.). We had the tools needed, but not everyone has these. Took 45 minutes per bolt install.

Bought these bolts as part of a project of restoring 200 year old pocket doors. They're beautiful with solid construction. They work perfectly and look gorgeous on the door.

My husband and I found out the hard way that you need these bolts for security on French doors, even if your French doors lock. Burglars tried to crowbar a set of (lovely, period) French doors where the previous homeowner had already installed similar bolts. They ruined the doors, but they failed to enter. Then they tried another set of French doors that did not have the bolts. They got in and stole everything they could quickly lay hands on. These bolts are both strong and handsome. They do not detract from the look of older doors. You want them on each door, top and bottom. I'd recommend a deadbolt in addition.

This is a good quality door bolt that has a substantial feel to it. I bought this for a set of French doors, and they were easy to install. I plan to buy another set for a second set of French doors.

fit my needs both operational and authenticity

The standard mortice type flip bolts for double doors, are the worst design ever, I enjoy the look of exposed hardware. The way it was before I replaced the doors, I hated to have to open both doors, you could not get the pins to align or have to get a screwdriver to pry the levers. Your stuff is great.

I purchased the surface bolts for custom made screen doors. When they first came and I opened the box, I thought the wrong items were sent because they were extremely large compared to other surface bolts we have on our doors. I was preparing to send them back and reorder, but decided to showed them to the person installing them. He thought they were very nice and would work well for the new doors. In looking back at my order, I actually did order the wrong ones and should have ordered the lightweight 8"" bolts, but probably got confused with the finish as the lightweight bolts did not come in the color I wanted. I do like the heaviness of the ones I selected by accident.
