The door is unlocked by turning the knob or lever on the inside and can also be unlocked from the outside by pushing a small screwdriver through the emergency release hole. Hardware Tip
Tubular Latch: A cylindrical door latch that is installed into the edge of the door and is operated by a knob or lever via the spindle. These are typically used for modern pre-bored doors.

Beautiful, high quality knobs

I ordered 6 of these for my closet doors. They look great and feel sturdy, and match the style of my 1920's bungalow perfectly.
nice look but stem between knob and rosette is flimsy

We bought for our entire house. They look great but when you get close up and touch it, it doesn't. The knob does not feel heavy or sturdy in your hand. The stem has screws on it which make it look cheap and flimsy. These screws also get loose so already in 1-2 months I have had to tighten the screws on them. The return policy isn't great of houseofantiquehardware.com so I just kept them but probably will have to change them out before I sell.
