4" Heavy Duty Plated Steel Door Hinge With Ball Tips

These hinges have not yet been installed but contractor was impressed. Door is 75-100 years old.

I used this hinge on an elevator door. It is heavy and attractive and replicates the vintage look of the other hinges.

These hinges looked like exactly what I wanted: heavy duty, solidly built, bright brass finish....the surprise was when the decorative ball on the top of hinge began to rust almost immediately, bleeding through the (apparently) thin brass finish...and not just one random hinge, but all three I purchased...the upscale effect I was looking for was shot in a matter of days...I will have to find some other product, perhaps more expensive, but definitely better made...no point in having detailed finery that doesn't work...

My unique old front door was damaged in the Houston flood of Memorial Day (May 26, 2015). The contractor wanted me to replace it; I wanted to keep it. To restore it I had it painted and we purchased a set of beautiful, solid brass hinges which show up on the outside when the door is opened and decorate the door from the inside when the door is closed.

I have purchased 3 1/2"" ball hinges from ""House"" before and installed them myself. They are slightly thicker than average and may require using a chisel and/or router to modify the hinge mortise. For these 4"" hinges I was ordering 2 new entry doors. I worked with the manufacturer to have them shipped to their site and installed as part of the pre-hung door package. It turned out great!

I had hoped to salvage the old hinges, but the multiple layers of paint and pitted finishes dashed my hopes. When I first looked for replacements with the ball finials I was astonished at the prices I found. House of Antique Hardware had these at half (or better) of prices elsewhere. Still not cheap (to refit an entire house), but these hinges change the entire look of the house. Rich finish and very solid. My order was processed quickly and I had my hinges very fast. Couldn't be more pleased.
