A window catch with both guts and style

OK Readers; Here is a 'real life' review of these latches, with background as needed. This writer bought these to replace the circa 1970 el cheepo sets that were on my now antique windows. These new ones at least 'go' with my1860 house and its re=modeling efforts. Now to details, measure the old hardware to be sure the Good Stuff will fit the window frames. In my case, 3 of the windows were the same dimensions, the 4th had a larger wooden sash work! I got them, intact, and ready to go. To put these on I found it was easier to put the latch assembly on first,. It should line up with one of the original holes in .your sash. Take the time to drill a pilot hole for the 2nd screw & be sure the latch assembly is where you want it. Here is where the screw comment comes in. The Company was kind a gave me one extra screw. The screws are mild steel, dipped in brass. Find the Right Size Slotted, Chisel Point, screw drive to fit, BEFORE you begin. The heads will deform with little effort. BUT if that is the only problem, I say No Issue; if you ruin a screw, go buy a dozen more. Back to the Installation Once the main latch is on put the small catch on the outter sash, again use the old hole, it should line up. Then engage part way the latch to the catch, drill your pilot hole, a screw the last part in place. This gives you correct alignment of the two parts. BOOM! your done. If its done right, it will hold and draw the sashes. In my project windows, one sash will fly up of its own[spring loaded] and the top sash will fall down on your unaware fingers! These Latches keep the whole in place. My 2nd problem window, the upper and lower sash do not like to meet in the middle. These Brass latches will give the window frame a 'yank' and BOOM! the window is correct The quality of the Latches is very good, the metal work crisp, and the function is direct and solid. The four holes are drilled correctly & OOPS I am out of letters to type
Beautiful finish; slightly darker than factory aging
Comments:
Beautiful, well-made piece. Purchased to replace missing sash locks in an 1886 stick/Eastlake Victorian. Very similar appearance to the originals. The hand finish on this is similar to the factory aged finish, but this piece was slightly darker. This piece had finer detail/sharper edges than the factory aged piece, which I prefer, but I'm not sure if that is intentional or simply due to variations in the manufacturing process. Between the two, I decided to go with the factory aged version due to the cost savings.
Good small locking device
Comments:
The lock is adorable and it works well. My only issue is the size of it. In my opinion I could use a larger one, at least twice the size.
