Description

Heavy brass skeleton (or bit) type keys were typically used with Colonial and Federal era rim locks and early mortise locks. Featuring a double notched bit, this cast brass reproduction has the potential to operate some antique locks (operability can only be determined by testing).

Overall length: 3 1/2". Barrel length (from bow to bit): 2 1/4". Barrel diameter: 1/4". Bit is 3/8" W x 3/8" H.

Hardware Tip

The bow is the ring part that you hold, the barrel is the tube in the center and the bit is the tooth like part on the end.

Brass Keys

Comments:

I purchased these keys for our older, Queen Anne Victorian interior fancy door locks. Unfortunately, the bits on each were slightly too large for the door lock mechanisms and I had to return them. I received a very prompt refund. Had they fit properly, I would have kept them and been delighted.

Didn't fit

Wouldn't fit in original 1889 Russell & Erwin rim lock

Comments:

Nice heavy key, the only problem is it did not fit my key slot. This time around I will buy the one that has many keys to chose from.

Too big!

Comments:

Nice looking key but too fat to fit into my mortise locks which I believe are pretty standard size. Won't buy any more :(
