Description

Why settle for white, when you can match your outlets to your decor or to the actual vintage of your home? Our tamper resistant outlet comes in 5 period colors, from early 20th century black and brown, to modern white! Meets National Electrical Code (NEC) for child safety in newly constructed and renovated dwellings. This residential grade outlet uses a double spring mechanism which only allows electrical connection when a 2 or 3 prong plug is inserted. Rated for 15A and 125V, UL listed and CSA certified. This is a push-in type receptacle, side wired with a grounding screw.

Hardware Tip

A duplex receptacle is a standard two plug wall outlet also known as a straight blade receptacle.

Beauty and safty

Comments:

These have a very smooth flush appearance...very easy to clean and the safety feature is a wonderful asset...no longer have to insert those ugly saftey plugs

Better safe than sorry

Comments:

These plugs are tamper resistant, which means that you have to have at least a 2 prong plug to insert into the outlet. If someone tried to insert a single object (paper clip, nail file, etc) the outlet will not open and accept it. This is great when you have little kids around, but it makes it a little more difficult to insert a plug in if one prong is shorter than the other of if you try to insert it at an angle instead of straight on. I don't consider this a fault, it is just the nature of tamper resistant outlets. The only con I have for these is that they can be backwired, meaning that you can strip the wires and push them into the back of the outlet, but they will only accept 14ga wire in this manner, so if you overbuild like I do and use 12ga wire even for a 15a circuit, you will not be able to backwire these outlets. Not a big deal, but it does make installation take longer.

Electrical Outlet

Comments:

Love House of Antique Hardware, but in this case the product can be found at local home improvement stores for 1/2 the price. If you want to support the company, buy them here. It, convenient and not that big of a deal, but if you want to save a couple of bucks per unit, purchase locally. I buy them from House of Antique Hardware because I want them to make a profit so I can maintain access to their beautiful line of switch plates.

It Works, And stuff

Comments:

Writing reviews for products like this seem like a creative writing exercise. How do you make this product compelling? I mean, I know it's just an outlet, but surely we can find the tension. The drama. The excitement. Not so much. It's just an outlet. It just happens to be in a historically appropriate color, and it works. Easy to install, looks like the picture, works as advertised. It's hard to say much else. Well, I guess I could mention that Cthulu popped out of the grounding pin after I wired it up, but that seems pretty standard these days, too. Yup, just a normal outlet.

Kid safe outlets!
