They are the best looking and designed magnetic catches I have used (in 50 years) To make them perfect, I would cut a slot in the back of the cylinder to make adjustment easier.

Closure on a cabinet

First of all, the hole on the base plate is smaller for the screw provided. The screws seem not for the white QS oak. I have broken 6 screws putting it on 5 doors. Still 7 more doors to go. The instruction says to use 1/16 drill bit for pilot holes, I had to go to next size up. Magnets are not that strong, but keeps the door closed and does not require a jolt to open the door which is good. The round washer is thicker than the thread of the magnet holder. I bet that washer will come loose and will get lost in coming months. If you have little softer wood, the screws will not be a problem. Hold the base plate with a pliers and turn the screw onto it then only install the base plate on the door.

I am a homeowner with quite a bit of experience fixing things around the house on my own. I was excited to purchase these magnets to keep our kitchen cabinets closed. I regret that decision. The product looks good, but it is poorly made. For one thing, once installed correctly, the magnet is so weak that simply the draft from closing an adjacent door causes another cabinet door to open. Also, when you go to install the plate, the screw is so tight in the plate hole that the whole plate spins, stripping the paint around it. Trying to pre-drill the whole a little bigger doesn't really help. In one case, the screw snapped in half with no what to remove it. I think the quality of the materials and the precision of the specifications with which the parts were made is not up to par. I do not recommend this products. I'll likely have to replace all of these magnets when I feel less frustrated and up to the job.

Magnet could be a little stronger

I had to purchase additional brass screws to finally get it installed. Then the magnet did not work properly. Poor design.

I have bought from other antique reproduction, hardware companies and have been disappointed, but house of antique hardware is the best in quality and detail.
