The refinishing and restoration of my Grandfathers 1940s chair side smoke stand was a journey back in time. I can see his pipes and tobacco sitting on the stand he made using rudimentary tools. I was apprehensive at first to undertake the project but knew he would approve regardless of the outcome. Once I started I felt as if he was guiding my every move, a very calming but eerie feeling. The dismantled mahogany pieces were sanded and stained back to their original english chestnut color and sealed with several coats of polyurethane. Looking at reusing the hardware to keep it original was my first choice, however they were to damaged and unusable. Not sure what I was going to use I made my way down to our local [...] store. Looking at what they had to offer, I knew I was in trouble and left discouraged. That evening I got on the computer and found your web site and ordered the very same period specific hardware that my Grandfather used, only this time in hand rubbed antique brass.
