Description

This lovely screen door latch set is a House of Antique Hardware exclusive! Faithfully reproduced from an 1870s original, it features an elegant Neo-Grec pattern replete with scrollwork and flowers. The knob and latch are quite petite, making this a suitable choice for small and lightweight doors. A handy privacy latch keeps strangers out and pets in. Made of heavy duty cast iron with your choice of matte black or lacquered antique finishes.

This set is designed to be mounted on the inside of wood screen doors which open outward, 1" - 1 3/8" in thickness. For thinner doors, simply trim the spindle to the desired length. Included spindle: 3" L x 5/16" x 16TPI.

Dimensions: Exterior backplate - 2 1/4" H x 1" W. Interior lock body - 2 1/4" H x 1 15/16" W. Backset: 1 7/16". Knobs - 1 1/4" diameter x 1 5/8" projection (including lock body).

Hardware Tip

Cast: Process where molten brass, iron or other metals are poured and formed in molds often made of sand. The products made in this manner are often thick and heavy.

Exactly what i hoped for

Comments:

I have a wooden screen door with very narrow gap between it and the main door. This fits perfectly.

Good product, but needs installation instructions

Comments:

Works well, looks great. Comes with a few extra screws and an extra setscrew, which is great. But it has no installation instructions, and it really needs them. I was mystified for a while about the geometry of how to mount it on the door and the jamb, which was partly me being dumb, but looking at the Q&A for this and similar latches, I'm not the only one. And it would be nice to have instructions about the size of the hole to drill through the door, about drilling pilot hole for screws (I didn't, except for the two for the strike plate, which are very close to the edge of the wood), about mortising the strike plate, etc.

Great item excellent design piece lovely detail

Comments:

Excellent product beautifully designed works flawlessly very smooth operation.

I appreciate the quality and customer service of HOAH

Comments:

I installed the hardware on a wood exterior screen/storm door. Installation was easy.

Over priced, poor functionality.

Comments:

The item looked good. The lock lever was so loose that if you closed the door more than once the vibration caused it to lock you out. Ended up removing lock mechanism. Internal spring too heavy making it hard to turn small knob. Ended up cutting spring shorter to reduce tension. Hole in strike plate exactly same size as plunger. No room for error in door alignment due to climate changes. Ended up fileing the hole in the strike plate longer.

Poor quality

Comments:

I purchased this latch set for a custom mahogany storm door for my 1896 house. My first thought was that it looked very tiny on the door, but I had the contractor install it anyway. That was a mistake... It rusted after a week, the privacy lock will not move and the latch fails to catch most of the time. Both me and my contractor agree that this is a piece of junk! I purchased another mortise set and he will be installing that soon. I have always been satisfied with other items from HAH, but not this time.

Screen Door Latch

Comments:

The only reason it doesn't get a 5 star rating is the size of the knobs. They are small and that makes them not to easy to grip.

Storm door latch

Comments:

It worked better than I expected.

The door lockset was a real solution !

Comments:

This lock set successfully latches and keeps the screen door closed. The old lock set (bolt-in-door's thickness) never worked smoothly even with shims, etc. weak spring, etc. R. Kaiser in idaho.

Tony knob

Comments:

I love the latch, but the knobs are too tiny to grasp well making it difficult to unlatch. I was hoping to replace the knobs with levers, but haven't been able to find any that fit the shaft
