The fitter is the outside diameter of the round opening at the small end of the shade. This should be a little smaller than the size of the shade holder on your fixture.

Great touch of antique-style

Purchased a few of these to replace the cheap looking glass shades that came with an entryway fixture. The fixture was really pretty, but the shades where sad looking. These are infinitely more elegant and stylish and definitely make the whole fixture feel more at home as a welcome into our early Colonial.
