3 1/2-Inch Solid Brass Eastlake Steeple Tip Hinge In Unlacquered Brass

Hinges are superior in design, material, functionality. The only problem is the screws. They look beautiful coming out of the package - nice, shiny brass. However, the brass is very weak. You should drill the largest pilot hole you can get away with and try to screw in by hand. Even so, trying to screw them into solid oak caused the head to strip several times. If the screwdriver slips once, the head will be very damaged. if it slips twice, you can pretty much throw away the screw and start with another one. Fortunately, I received an extra screw with each hinge. However, I am concerned that if ever I have to remove the screws, I will be in big trouble, as the slot on the head is so weak. Despite being a purist as far as using authentic material, I have to admit that it would probably be better to use a brass plated screw of sturdier material rather than solid brass screws.

I have purchased restoration aiems fro other businesses. The quality of the items from House of Antique Hardware is far superior. For example: I have had a problem with striping out or breaking off the tops of the mounting screws from other retailers. all the screws on the hinges from this purchase were far superior!
