Description

This sturdy spindle is designed to facilitate new or vintage doorknobs with threaded shanks of 20 TPI. Used with privacy latches and mortise locks, its hardened steel construction provides smooth operation and long-lasting wear. At 4 3/4" in length, it's ideal for thicker doors. Features a standard 9/32" thickness and removable 3/8" centers.

Dimensions: 4 3/4" L x 9/32" thick. 20 TPI. 3/8" removable centers. Tapped for 10-24 set screws.

Hardware Tip

If you need a threaded spindle you need to know what the threads per inch are and check to see that the spindle thickness is small enough to fit through the hub of your lock or latch.

Finally replaced the chopstick with a working door knob!

Comments:

I was relieved to find someone who had the patience and knowledge to help me identify the part I needed to replace in my old door knob. The price was fantastic and it works. I no longer am opening my front door with a chopstick.

Fixed my doorknob -- my first solo home repair project!

Comments:

I want to keep my house looking good with repairs that are historically accurate (no new shiny brass doorknobs!). This swivel spindle means I can keep the original doorknob. Repairs by the rental company don't preserve the historical look of my house so I opted to do this myself and House of Antique Hardware made it possible!

Great but puzzling

Comments:

Maybe it's just me, I'm not sure how to make this spindle not unscrew from the inside of the door when turned the wrong way. I'm sure it's just me. It' works great. Just that I don't know how to do this. I worked the old one out, and reused the doorknobs and its soooo much better. the old one was sheered off and would often loosen and spin way too easily, with no way to tighten it. Especially when the teenagers twisted it so hard. The threads had been rounded over the years. The knob was stuck on one side because of that. I backed it off and the customer service had guided me getting the size and style right. Very big improvement.

Great item...perfect for antique locks...doors.

Comments:

Perfect fit. Just as described for our older mortise doors.

These are the correct spindles!

Comments:

If you have antique (old) door knobs, these are the spindles you want. 1/4"" width with 3/8"" removable centers cover all width sizes. If too long, you can easily file/grind them shorter if needed. The swivels allow for correct fit on varying door thicknesses. They're perfect.

This is the one you want.

Comments:

If you need a split spindle or one that's tapped with screw threads, this is what you need. These fit almost all sizes of mortise lock. The spacers for the larger diameter holes are easy to get off. If you don't need it to accept screws, and your knob can work with the threaded spindles and a set screw only, there are cheaper alternatives. Otherwise this is it.

Worked very well

Comments:

Its a very old door, I thought parts were no longer made for it. I found the house of antiques on line. They provided measurements for me (most others don't) and the piece was here in two days. The fit was exact and worked perfect.
