Description

This half-mortise lock is an excellent choice for new furniture, or as a replacement for a worn or broken lock. Made of durable, polished steel, it's suited for chests or boxes. Comes complete with one nickel-plated skeleton key.

Dimensions. Lock body: 2 5/8" W x 1 5/8" H x 5/16" T. Key: 2 1/4" L. Backset: 1".

Hardware Tip

Full mortise fit completely inside the door in a mortise pocket, half mortise fit on the inside of the door in a mortise notch and the back of the lock is exposed. Non mortise are surface mounted.

a refit on a 100 year old chest

This lock and key fit well into the mortise of a 100 year old chest that I was asked to restore. With just a little shimming everything worked well.

Locks for two fur-trade period recreation ""cassettes.""

Comments:

I built two ""cassettes,"" which are sturdy pine chests used by fur traders in the 19th century to carry personal belongings on their extended canoe-journeys from Montreal to their wintering quarters further west. These locks, though a trifle small, work perfectly for the design of these chests. Glad I find them.
