3 1/2-Inch Solid Brass Door Hinge With Ball Finials

Great solid craftsmanship. Needed to replace 100 year old hinges. These replaced them perfectly.

Unlike most of the hardware purchased from various site, including this one, the screws did not strip after the first turn. I was relieved to have avoided the frustration attendant to hunting for replacement screws in the middle of a job.

I bought 20 of these hinges after looking for quite a while for hinges with the correct thickness of leaf (1/8""), and ball finials. Other brands can cost over twice as much, so they looked like a good value. However, do not buy these if you are hoping to easily replace existing hinges with a 3 hole arc pattern; The holes on these are about half a hole diameter off. This is not an issue of old hinges having a different pattern than new industry standard patterns; my 1930 hinges have the exact pattern of the new hinges of other brands I've used on several doors. What this means: You will have to drill out the old holes, fill with a dowel and glue, redrill new holes. This turned what I estimated to be a 15 minute per door job into a 45 minute per door job. I have 10 doors, so that's 120 holes to fill. They'd be fine for new installation, and work well (I lightly lubricated the pins). I'm not going to return them because I want to get this job done, but I'd consider spending more per hinge to get the right hole pattern. At the very least the House of Antique Hardware should note this in the description, and provide a template online as many companies do.

These are being used throughout a historic home restoration, they are a perfect addition to a well detailed restoration (or new construction for that matter). That match our 1920's details exactly.

I am refinishing all of our interior doors, replacing the original 1926 Stanley ball hinges that had corroded. I had previously used brass plated steel hinges advertised to be exact Stanley replacements, but I thought to try these solid brass hinges. These hinges are far superior to the brass-plated steel ones, being beautifully and precisely made, and are about 15% cheaper. In addition, both slot and phillips brass mounting screws are provided. The only drawback is that the mounting screw holes in the hinges do not quite line up with the existing mortise holes, but I found it satisfactory to carefully drill new pilot holes.

Purchased a set of these antique-finish door hinges for a basement renovation project in my 1898 home. They fit wonderfully with the existing historic hardware elsewhere in the home. The finials add an elegant touch, and the pin system makes for easy uninstall, as we're going to be refinishing the door soon. Great purchase!

The finish it's actually better than original hinges, which is why I'm buying more. I need the whole house to match. I bought the unlaquered brass and the brass feels s as smooth as glass. No manufacturing marks or flaws.

Close enough to the original 1930 hinges on a historic restoration project where some doors had gone missing over the years & replacing with matching doors.

A very solid and high-quality hinge. The finish (antique brass) is really nice and the hinge operates really smoothly. Installation was about the same as any other hinge, nothing special there.

It's exactly what I wanted, and the removable pins made installation easy.
